St Peter in Chains
ST PETER IN CHAINS
Oil on canvas
A triptych of 3 large canvases supported by 40 small canvases
Size: 17’6” X 7’6”
The visual theme of this work is chains and fishing. It takes its title and a certain amount of imagery from St. Peter, by occupation a fisherman, who was led in chains to imprisonment and death in Rome. Partly as a reference to this, three large central panels show the drag chains of beam trawlers fishing out of Newlyn, Cornwall, while the forty supporting works comment variously on the twin themes.
