I take my inspiration from both of these Western counties working mainly in charcoal, oil paint and soft pastel.
An important strand of my work follows the C19 Realist Art Movement which sought to portray the lives of ordinary people - at work, at celebration and in quiet domesticity - and thus to make them extra-ordinary. In this work I seek to look at the lives of those around me and “paint them down”. In my large piece of “St. Peter in Chains” I explored the life and hardships of the Fishing Industry working out of Newlyn and am at present working on another large series celebrating Helston Flora day - that most wonderful and joyful of Cornish Traditions. For me both the sea and the music of the Furry Dance were woven inextricably into my childhood.
